⦿ The 26th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2024 started at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR)
⦿ A survey of reptiles and amphibians, known as herpetofauna, was conducted in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), specifically in the Masinagudi Division, from September 7th to 9th, 2024.
⦿ This survey discovered a large variety of species, with a total of 33 reptiles and 36 amphibians identified.
⦿ The Masinagudi Division in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve is ecologically important because it includes a mix of forests and shrub jungles, creating a perfect environment for many different species.

⦿ Project Tiger was initiated in 1973 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India.
⦿ As of March 2024, there are 55 Tiger reserves under the project project.
⦿ As of 2023, there were 3,682 wild tigers in India, which is almost 75% of the world’s wild tiger population.
⦿ In 2006, National Tiger Conservation Authority was formed to administer the tiger reserves.
⦿Project Tiger is headed by an additional director general (ADG) based at New Delhi with regional offices at Bangalore, Guwahati and Nagpur.
⦿ The wildlife habitats that fall under Project Tiger are categorized into different conservation units: Shivalik-Terai, North East, Sunderbans, Western ghats, Eastern ghats, Central India and Sariska.
Samarth Scheme
⦿ Launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Textiles, the Samarth Scheme is all about promoting skill development in the textile industry.
⦿It helps improve productivity and encourages entrepreneurship among artisans.
⦿ It also focuses on creating sustainable livelihoods and promotes the involvement of women artisans.
⦿ Samarth Scheme has been extended for another two years, covering the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
⦿ The Samarth Scheme has trained 327,000 people. Of these, 260,000 (about 79.5%) have successfully found jobs, which shows the effectiveness of the training.
International Solar Alliance
⦿ The 7th Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly held in New Delhi in Sep 2024.
In this session 120 countries participated.
⦿ ISA main objective is to encourage the use of solar energy among its members.

⦿ SolarX Startup Challenge:- This supports new businesses in the solar energy sector and promotes innovative ideas.
⦿ STAR-C Initiative:- Aims to provide training and infrastructure and promote high standard quality.
Global Solar Facility: A plan to increase investments in areas that lack access to solar energy.
